Our Story

Built for makers.
By a maker.

CNC software has been unnecessarily complicated for too long. We built WebCAM CNC because makers deserve tools that get out of the way — not tools that require a three-day onboarding.

The old way wasn't working.

If you've ever tried to run a CNC project using traditional CAM software, you know the drill: install a heavyweight desktop app, hunt for the right post-processor, navigate a settings panel built for aerospace engineers — all before you've cut a single piece of wood.

For hobby makers, that friction kills projects before they start. You lose the spark between idea and execution.

Rob Lester founded WebCAM CNC in 2025 from a garage in New Jersey with one conviction: the browser is already your most capable workstation. Everything you need to design, configure, and generate G-code should live right there — zero install, zero gatekeeping.

Four studios. One platform.

Every studio is purpose-built for its machine type. No bloat from features you'll never use.

Write Studio

Pen plotting & precision drawing

Design postcards, signs, and handwritten prints. Generates HP-GL compatible G-code for drawing machines and pen plotters.

Burn Studio

Laser engraving & raster workflows

Optimize pass strategy, control laser power and speed, and preview your burn output before ever firing the laser.

Cut Studio

Coming this year

CNC milling & toolpath generation

Pocket, outline, engraving, V-carving, and drag-knife strategies. Machine-ready G-code for GRBL-based routers.

PCB Studio

Gerber import & isolation milling

Drop your Gerber and Excellon files, auto-map edge cuts, isolation passes, and drill operations from standard board exports.

What we believe

The browser is the platform.

Modern web browsers are more capable than most desktop apps. We bet on them early and we haven't looked back. No downloads, no version mismatches, no "reinstall and try again."

Complexity is a design failure.

If it takes more than a few clicks to go from idea to G-code, something went wrong. We obsess over simplicity — not because our users aren't smart, but because they have better things to do than fight their tools.

Makers deserve pro-grade tools.

Hobbyists shouldn't have to settle for watered-down software. The same feeds-and-speeds math, the same ramp entry strategies, the same toolpath algorithms — available to anyone with a browser and a machine.

Ship chips, not files.

The goal is never the G-code file — it's the thing you make with it. We keep that in mind every time we make a product decision. Speed up the path from idea to finished piece.

Community is the roadmap.

Features don't get built in a vacuum. The forum, the feedback, the bug reports — that's where the product lives. Real makers running real jobs on real machines set the priorities.

Always up to date.

Because it's web-based, every user is always on the latest version. No "you need to update" dialogs. No licensing server. When we fix a bug or ship a feature, everyone gets it instantly.

What's under the hood

WebCAM CNC is built to run where your CNC workstation already lives — in a browser tab. Connect your machine directly via the Web Serial API, download G-code to an SD card, or both.

  • Runs in any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox
  • Supports GRBL-based CNC controllers
  • Compatible with X-Carve, Shapeoko, 3018-PRO, FoxAlien, VEVOR + more
  • Direct machine connection via Web Serial API
  • Real-time 3D toolpath preview
  • Multi-language: EN, DE, FR, ES, PT-BR
